Okidata Microline 380 Teardown

Following is a procedure for a complete teardown to thoroughly clean a machine and restore it to good order.

1) Platen Knob

2) Access Cover
> Lift the cut-sheet guide slightly and tip it back so it lies flat.
> Open the access cover fully.
> Tug leftward near the left side hinge to free it.

3) Cut-Sheet Guide
> Spread its hinge 'ears' to free it.

4) Paper Separator
> Tip it rearward to free its clips from the platen bearings.

5) Main Cover
> Two M4x10mm pan head screws w/captive washers at the rear.
> Tip the cover up at the rear to remove it.

6) Mechanism
> Ground wire terminal at right side end of carriage rail -- one M3x8mm pan head screw w/captive washers.
> Ground strap end behind transformer -- one M3x6mm pan head screw w/captive washers.
> Two flat cables in ZIF connectors.
> Four cable connections.
> Four claws hold the mechanism to the base pan -- two at the left; two at the right.

7) Transformer w/Attached PCA and Line Cord
> One cable connection.
> Two ground terminal screws -- M4x8mm pan head w/captive washers.
> Four M4x8mm pan head screws w/captive washers.

8) Main Logic PCA w/Control Panel
> One M3x6mm pan head screw w/captive washers by the interface connector.
> Four M3x8mm pan head threading screws.
> Two claws, left and right sides near the front.

9) EMI/RFI Shield
> Four M3x8mm pan head threading screw.
> Push down on one claw near the right side end to let the item move rightward.

8) LF Motor

9) Change Lever

10) Change Gear and Spring
> NOTE that the gear's extended hub goes out.

11) Idler Gear
> NOTE that the flanged end goes inboard.

12) Pinch Rollers Lever and Pinch Rollers Assembly

13) Tractor Drive Gear

14) Tractor Drive Shaft (Square Shaft)

15) Tractors Assembly

16) Tension Strip

17) Carriage Belt Tensioner Clamp Screw
> One M3x6mm pan head threading screw w/loose flat washer.

18) Carriage Belt Tension Spring

19) Carriage Belt off its Pulleys

20) Carriage Belt Idler Pulley

21) Carriage Motor Assembly
> Two claws.

22) Carriage
> Two M3x8mm pan head screws w/captive washers.
> Carefully free the flat cables from their restraints.

23) Front Carriage Rail/Ribbon Drive Rack

24) Left (white) and Right (black) Carriage Rail Eccentric Adjustment Bushings
> NOTE the factory alignment marks.

25) Carriage Rail w/Carriage Frame

26) Bail and Home Sensing Switches
> NOTE: The bail sensing switch's retainer is likely to break.

27) Optical Sensor

NOTES

A) Leave off the bail components at reassembly until the printhead/platen gap adjustment has been performed.

B) Printhead/platen gap is 0.016" at thickness setting '1'. Gap/parallelism adjustment is done with the eccentric bushings at the ends of the carriage rail.

C) To enter Menu Mode, have paper loaded, press FONT and PITCH simultaneously.
